1977 TA, w/TH350.

When we have the car up on the lift, reverse clunks into gear, and we can go through the forward gears, and the rear tires spin.

When dropping the car down to the ground, we still have reverse clunk but absolutely no forward motion.

We can rev the engine in any of the forward gears, and it’s like being neutral.

Earlier, we did have fluid spitting out of the fill tube, but we cleaned out the vent to resolve that problem and changed the filter simultaneously.

Any ideas from the experts?

Sorry to hear that.

Sadly, by your description, you have a completely toasted forward drum.

It will be full rebuild time because I assume you have deposited friction material & metal particles all around the trans, all of which have probably nicked the odd seal, oring, etc.

I’ve just got my 79 back from a good friend who’s rebuilt my TH350; the damage was nothing short of catastrophic & yet the car still drove.

I’ll start a new thread & post up some pix!

Thanks, Monkyslut.

When we replaced the filter, there were no metal chunks or slivers.

We drug a magnet through the thick sludge, which we think may have been some transmission sealer.

We pulled it today, cleaned the case, and will drop it off Monday for a rebuild.

So it goes.

Thanks for the reply!

I am looking forward to seeing those pics.
