Hi, I have just purchased a 1978 trans am project car.

The car has been stripped, and the bodywork completed and painted.

We are building the engine at the moment.

Electrics, wiring loom has been removed. I have new power motors for the windows.

They are currently half-way open, and I want to install the power window regulator and motor to close them.

Is there a way to power the windows separately or to manually crank them closed?

Thanks for any suggestions.

That’s an easy job!

Drop in the power regulator with a small jump lead connected to a 12V battery and a ground cable going to the door frame, and it’ll just whizz up with no problem.

Try it in a bench vice first to make it easier to work out which terminals to use for clockwise or anti-clockwise spindle operation (up or down).👍

Add some extension wires out from the door, don't want your hands inside when these things start to move, lots or torque.

Add a wire from door shell or a bolt as a ground.

The live wire runs off either of the 2 terminals, one powers up, the other powers down.

Be aware that you may have to stop it yourself if the window stops are no longer there, pic shows the lower one is.

Also, you have no upper window guide blocks, there will be no support for the glass and very difficult to hold glass in position or close door without damaging something.

These are the 3 slots at top of door shell, they adjusted in and out to support glass.

Originally 3, later years only had 2 plus a blank one that supported the door trim/seal.

Perhaps the reason window was down, replacing blocks and never got back to it.

Also, no rubber belt seals, inside or outside, scratching glass is a certainty, even being careful with the power window motor.

Never mind, this is a year old topic.

A toggle switch for what?

Digging up old threads for zero contribution?
