    It is always 62 Camel Tan on a Y88. It's easy to get off RockAuto in the correct color from AAC.

    You are looking for the wrong motor. That code is for a W72 400. Your car had an L78 400 with the cast code 500557.

    1977 Trans Am VIN Help

    I have never heard of any such check required by Highway Patrol in California. If they need to complete such a check, they can pay for a rebuild and re-gas of your HVAC system, which must be disconnected. No Firebird I've registered/smogged in California has ever required such a check.

    None were made with factory vinyl interiors; there was no way to select a different interior, as they came with special hobnail cloth seats as part of the package. The only kind of pace car that did have a vinyl interior was the 1979 TATA.

    That tire is not reproduced. Additionally, you would never use this as a spare tire on your Firebird in this day and age. You can have a standard tire made to fit that wheel or buy another one that has not been inflated as purely a decorative piece.

    Is This Trans AM Worth It?

    Maybe $40k if gone back to original as possible? You'd have to push to find the original motor, plus it's only a factory 3-speed. It is rare, however, no doubt. Will need tens of thousands in work as well.

    A Fire Am and a Trans Am are two different things, all the cars above are just regular T/A's. Say, looking at your interior, is your car a Y81 Special Edition? Or has all that stuff been swapped in?

    Identical, there is no difference between a 1979 and 1981 Trans Am suspension. The only difference would be found in whether or not the car was equipped with the WS6 pack. Why not just save both cars? Surely it would be more costly, but keep two T/A's on the road instead of taking apart one.
