Terminology Confusionology - Limited Vs. Special Editions Trans Am

So I began researching the '76 TA Anniversary model particulars, and most internet jargons refer to all as SE.

Still, a few resources refer to the 76 as "Limited Editions" for having the Hurst Hatches, while only those with the 455 HO were termed 'Special Editions.'

To make matters more confusing, in 77, they were all referred to as Special Editions (and none LE, or at least that I could tell).

So, yes, the wonders of the internet can even monkey-wrench instructions on breathing; has someone got any insight on this?

1976 Y82 Trans Ams were classified as the 50th Anniversary Limited Edition package initially; there was only supposed to be a set amount of them made. Limited implies a finite quality.

However, its popularity exploded, so in 1977, the option became the Y82 Special Appearance Package.

It was no longer limited, and Pontiac made as many as people would order.

Another example of a Limited Edition can be seen in the Tenth Anniversary Trans Am; they were "limited."

They made a set number of units. Same with the pace cars.
