Just a general question as I have a 79 TA that I've had since high school in 1984.

It's been in storage too long and has just under 50k miles.

Time to get this bird flying again with the 403 Olds engine.

Paint/body great shape.

I want to modify it to get more hp out of it.

My wife and I had our first date in the car, so sentimental value.

Should I try to keep it as original as possible or do what I want and make some modifications?

All new to me.

Thanks

I have the same engine, and I wouldn’t overspend.

For $6K, I brought my HP from a paltry 185HP at the crank to 250hp.

Put in true dual exhaust and new exhaust manifolds, different AT torque converter, rebuilt and re-jetted (larger bowl, no more choke or fast idle), and put 3:42 gears in the year-end.

Everything else is as is, and I am thrilled with the performance.

I also rebuilt the suspension for another $5K because bushings, springs, etc., all wear over time.

While I could have invested another $15K and maybe another 100HP, my bird is still original.

That is pretty much what they did to the Macho TA.
