I haven’t had this car long and am new to the forum.

It’s a 1979 Trans Am 4 speed car.

My question is that the shifter has a T handle on it saying Hurst on it.

Is this Original to the car?

The whole interior of this car is in my basement but here is a picture of the shifter.

The other thing I noticed is the power antenna has a CB cable on it along with the radio cable.

Like the others, can you provide a photo of the connecting cable/coax to the antenna?

I'm trying to picture in my mind this setup. The year is without question in tune with the CB craze that covered the US for many years.

Outside chance it could be part of an extra package that was part of the Hurst shifter. (?)

However, since you said it connects to the same antenna there should be a loading coil someplace in the antenna.

Something that would be about the size of your thumb but a little longer. This would be needed to correct the standing wave ratio for the CB to work correctly with out burning it out.

Send a photo of the antenna if you can and the connecting point.

I'm guessing you do not have another antenna such as the Bandit had located between the T Tops? Actually that looks good in the movie but it didn't leave much of a ground plane for the signal with all the metal missing. It would work but not as well as being placed in another location. Sorry, I'm getting off-topic. Look at the left side antenna on my Goldwing and you will see something like I'm asking about. The right antenna is for radio, left for CB radio.

PS: Where the radio dial is located looks like it may lift back for an 8 track tape to go into.

Just curious, does it have an 8 track player as well? That too would be in line with the year.

It looks like it's the same size opening as the 8 track tape would be. See attached photo.

Sorry, many people today have no idea what an 8 track tape is.

If this is an original special order, would there be a code on the drivers' door sticker to indicate it?

Just curious.

I appreciate you getting back to me on this topic thanks I have been working on getting the car back together all the inter-engine it’s all complete I just have to put on the doors and front As far as the CB goes I think it was an afterthought it does use the same antenna with some kind of coil pack attached for the CB cord It does not have an Eight track player.

Here being in Ontario Canada it is a challenge to find parts for these second GEN Trans Ams I’m not sure what it’s like there but there’s not a lot of them around.

Even though we can order online a lot of parts for these cars it seems that they have to come from the United States.

Great looking car.

I also have a 79 400, 4-speed.

The t-handle on your shifter is aftermarket, but your shifter probably isn't.

I have factory Hurst shifters on both of my 78 and 79 4-speed cars attached to Borg Warner Super T-10's.

If you're ever having an issue finding parts, give me a shout. I'm in Massachusetts, US, but if it is something on the smaller side, shipping won't be too painful.

Keep posting pics of your progress!
