I recently bought a '79 T/A and believe I have a bad temperature gauge.
I found an OER replacement (https://www.oerparts.com/product/6493193.html), but it clearly states this is only for the '70-'78 model years.
Does anyone know why this OER replacement gauge is incompatible with the '79 - '81 model years?
I called OER, and let's say they were less than helpful?!?!
I looked up the oil & temperature sending unit part numbers and confirmed that the oil pressure sending unit is common between '78 & '79.
However, the coolant temperature sending unit part numbers are different between '78 & '79.
The connections are different, but there's no reference to the temperature curves for either sending unit.
I suspect the OER replacement gauge will work in a '79-'81 instrument cluster, but you might need to use the '78 temperature-sending unit to read accurately.
Please let me know if anyone has already solved this mystery.
I appreciate any help you can provide.
