Hi all, I am hoping someone can help me.

I am replacing the camshaft and lifters, as my lifters failed a few months ago.

I am taking the engine apart to get to the timing chain.

Can someone tell me, hopefully, with pictures, how to remove the timing chain cover?

I have removed the rad, fan, all the belts, water pump, etc.

I now see a white plate before the timing chain and cam.

What would be my next step?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Mike

Remove the bottom pulley of the crank nose & undo the 7/16” & 1/2” bolts & the cover will come off quickly.

Try not to bend the mating surfaces as you pry it off as the gasket sticks pretty hard & the locating dowels will be corrupted, too.

If you look online, you’ll find lots of good diagrams & all of the torque settings; don’t overtighten & distort the cover.

Don’t forget to install a new seal.?

Hi all, I'm just bringing you up to date on my progress.

I removed the timing chain cover, timing chain, cam, and lifters.

I'm just waiting for my new cam to show up.

I received the new lifters, timing chain, gaskets, etc.

Just slowly cleaning up all the grime.

Ahh, good stuff, my friend!

At least you have plenty of time to clean the cover thoroughly, fit the new oil seal & straighten out the gasket surfaces & the oil pan rail.

While you’re at it, get a small hammer & a straight edge & flatten out the bolt holes.

You’re always dished & distorted no matter how careful you are not to overtighten them.👌

Thanks for all the advice, guys.

I removed the cam and lifters.

I'm just waiting for the new cam.

Then, it will be fun trying to put everything back together.

Toronto recently, so my progress has been slow.

I am in no rush, so I am just going to wait for the weather to warm up a bit to start priming and painting some of the surfaces.
