I bought a 79 Y84 SE, and it always feels like the heat is on in the car.

The car is not overheating, but I wonder if I need to put better insulation under the carpet and if that will help with the heat coming in.

Any other suggestions would be helpful.

Is the heat blowing through the vents, or does it feel hot at the firewall and floor?

If firewall and floor, better insulation could help.

If vents, check to ensure the temp control lever isn’t stuck, the cable has broken behind it, and the vent door opens and closes as it should.

First, check if the exhaust has been swapped or headers added; if so, move on.

Insulation only does so much.

The heater is always on with these cars, with no heater tap, but the heater blend door redirects heated air back out and not to vents via the heater core, which is inside the cabin anyway.

Again, I can only do so much: install tap and correct doors and cables.

You have to know where the heat is coming from to learn how to correct it.
