I am also a new member, and I was wondering why there isn't an SD sub-forum to discuss those specific 73-74 cars.

I'll shoot first with a few questions: Recommended oil 30w or 10w40, assuming these cars are either climate controlled or only driven rarely, and in 60+ degree weather, what oil viscosities have long-term owners used and can recommend ( including dino vs synthetic)?

Everyone has their favorite brands, trying to understand what has served long-term owners well with modern oils.

What are common problem issues when considering an SD 455?

I do not know how to determine if it is real, but I know there are longer-term issues to be aware of and look out for when considering buying one.

I've noticed a few seem to have corrosion around the water neck/thermostat housing.

For example, is that a common issue, and does regular cooling system maintenance prevent that?

Are most owners still running points and condensers, or are there any specific concerns about a Pertronix ignition upgrade on an SD?

There are many forums and SD sub-forums; this particular one barely has posts covering second gens.

Your questions were general to a lot of models anyway.

Using points or corrosion after 50 years covers cars everywhere, an original SD owner probably wouldn't be rushing out to replace original parts until they were irreplaceable.

Hopefully, some earlier year owners have some ideas.
