The 1968 Super Teen Firebird was a contest car for a popular ABC-TV show. Designed by George Barris, who frequently went over-the-top with his designs, this 1968 Firebird sported a 3-piece adjustable rear spoiler, long hood scoops, sidepipes, split bumpers, and simulated side brake scoops. The car survives today and is beautifully restored. Aside from model company MPC being a major sponsor (they would make a plastic model kit of this car), another sponsor was Singer Electronics. George Barris built a custom rear seat "work area" consisting of an oak desk, AM/FM stereo, turntable, TV, speakers, and a typewriter to showcase their products.
This George Barris custom was one of three given away as prizes for the “Sounds of ‘68” talent contest and TV show. The show’s emcee was Ed Ames, known to many as Daniel Boone’s Indian sidekick Mingo, on the popular 1960s TV series.
