VIN is only 13 digits, and Carfax requires 17 digits.

You need to post significantly more information.
The VIN is essential to finding the car, and old photos help determine what the car looked like.
With tens of thousands of 1979 Trans Ams being out there, it would be impossible to distinguish that car from thousands of others without the VIN.
