Why do the brake lights come on when I push in the clutch?

76, 455, 4 speed.
I'm starting to wonder if something is getting pressed into the brake switch.
Is it possible that the clutch cross shaft will move your brake pedal enough to come off the brake switch?
Snug bushing, perhaps?
It might also be dragging on the hush panel under the dash, also possibly moving the brake pedal.
Another possibility would be a failing or misadjusted brake pedal switch.
