Hi everyone, I'm hoping for someone with excellent knowledge of these cars to help me.

I got on a 79 Bandit special edition Y84 with 4000 original miles.

It's said to have the original paint finish; however, I'm skeptical about that being true.

I did paint meter the whole car, and the paint readings seem very thin, showing 1.6 to 2.5 MIL except for the pillar area up towards the roof/ tops. Shows 40 MIL on both sides.

That paint looks ok, but lots of paint flaws Meaning in the spray.

Fish eyes more on the door, lots of orange peel, especially towards the lower area.

I'm just not entirely convinced it's original paint.

Anything I could look for instead of relying on a paint meter?

I don't see any paint tape marks in the jams or anything, ??‍♂️

How does an original TA paint of this area show?

Any info would help.

Thank you,
Paul

Some of the cars from the factory arrived with 3.5mil paint thickness to the dealership, so it could be possible that it is OG.

Are there any overspray or sharp, precise lines on the hood or panels?

Thank you,

No overspray or tape lines, and with a UV light for (paint corrections), it’s all consistent. ??‍♂️

Maybe it is original.

Am I guessing these were painted in single-stage paint?

GM stopped using single-stage paints in 1985.
