1977 Trans Am VIN Number?

Hello, I am new to this site and have a question about the VIN # on the engine block of my '77 Trans Am.

I purchased the car new, so I know that the 400 is the original.

I am currently doing some freshening up and have the engine out.

In looking for the VIN# stamped on the block, under the head, and to the side of the timing chain cover, there is nothing there.

Is the number possibly stamped somewhere else, or did mine just get missed?

I did find the number stamped on the transmission.

I appreciate any help you can provide.

Thank you for the quick response!

I was working on the engine today, so I applied some paint remover to the area. There was the number! It is so lightly stamped that a layer of paint obscured it. 2 7 N and then the last six digits of the VIN #.

I am still taking pictures and videos of it because I plan to repaint that area, which will be covered up again.
