New here.

I bought a new Martinique Blue 78 Trans Am in 1978 from Al Hankin Motors in Larned, KS, and I ordered it without the hood bird.

Does anyone know how many were ordered that way?

I ordered the high compression TA engine, but with the automatic.

They told me that the engine could only be had with the four-speed, but it came with it anyway.

It had blacked-out T-tops, 8-inch wheels with Goodyears, big sway bars, and power windows.

My car came into the dealer's all by itself on a railcar and was the last 78 to go into KS.

Anyone seen it?

Thanks.

As a frequent attendee of the annual Trans Am Nationals in Dayton, Ohio, I have, over the years, seen a blue factory no-bird car, but I think the one I saw was a '79.

There were a few made like that, not very many, but a few.

I can tell you that exactly 80,887 Trans Ams were ordered with the hood decal option in 1978.

It cannot, however, be broken down into individual productions.

You could still get the W72 engine with an automatic in 1978; however, towards the end of the 1978 model year, Pontiac started rejecting those orders. It was definitely not the last 1978 to go to Kansas if it had an automatic W72.

It will be impossible to track down this car without the VIN.

There are hundreds and hundreds of 1978 Martinique blue 400 W72/WS6 automatic cars out there still to this day, and you will never know if it is your car without the VIN.
