I have a 97 Bird with the 3.8L and was wondering if I have to go back with a 3.8 from another f body or can I use one from another gm vehicle?

I thought about using a 4.3L but was told it wasn't a good idea.

What's your opinion?

I am thinking you will have to go back with the 3.8 just because that is the only engine that will work with your cars computer. Back in the 70's you could swap out any engine you wanted but in the era of computer controlled engines your pretty much stuck with what your car was born with.

All I really need is the block because the bottom end is locked up.

I didn't know if i could use something like a 4.3 from an s10 or something.

Mix and trying to match parts like that sounds like a lot of work and money involved.

Are you planning on keeping the car?

If you are then spending the money and get it rebuilt with quality parts so you can supercharge it later.

If not just buy a used one from the junkyard.
