I have a 1979 T/A; the rear axle is stamped 'GM30' on the passenger side and '1254333' on the driver's side.

Is that stamped on the axle tubes or either side of the diff housing?
The axle codes are generally a mixture of letters and numbers, usually about 7-8 characters, and are stamped on the top of the passenger-side axle tube.

Yes, these are stamped on the axle tube, on the front of the tube.
I did not see or feel anything else on the top side.
