I have a 1973 red Trans Am with a 455 engine and automatic transmission.

I thought it was odd that it didn't come with a floor console and shifter.

It was built with a column shifter; however, when I ordered the PHS information for the car, there was a listing on the build sheet for a rear console.

Never realized there was such a thing.

I researched it and sure enough, there was an optional rear seat console you could order.

I actually found a real beat-up one that I am having restored.

My question is, have you ever seen or heard of this type of setup?

I am wondering if the guy possibly ordered the wrong console because both were options.

Just curious if anyone else thinks it's a little odd.

Thanks!

That is very odd, but could you share the PHS? D55 was the front console, and it was an extra charge in 1973.

A rear console but no front console is a very unusual combination, and I think you'd be hard-pressed to find another one.

Wow.

That is a very unique build sheet, with almost zero options except for the deluxe interior, a dinky AM radio, and the rear seat console.

Very interesting. Are you sure it wasn't a factory 4-speed manual?

Does it have the original driveline?
